AVJA demands Supreme Court panel visit 64 districts to hear mining woes
On Tuesday, AVJA, a coalition of environmentalists and activists, claimed that the Supreme Court-appointed High-Powered Committee (HPC) on the Aravallis had not visited any mining-affected villages. AVJA demanded the committee visit all 64 districts in five states before submitting its report by August 31 to understand villagers' problems and ensure sustainable mining practices. Co-founder Neelam Ahluwalia highlighted issues with public hearings, including threats against civil society members and poor dissemination of information. Villagers from Jodhpura reported health issues linked to mining activities.
AAP MLAs Protest Rice Scam, Throw Sacks in Assembly
On Tuesday, AAP MLAs protested in the Delhi Assembly over an alleged rice scam involving Manjinder Singh Sirsa, carrying sacks of rice and throwing some during proceedings. Speaker Vijender Gupta condemned the protest as indiscipline; AAP MLAs Ajay Dutt and Virender Singh Kadyan were marshalled out. Sirsa denied allegations, stating no rice was purchased or sold by the government.
Farmers March 13 Days to Delhi, Demand MSP Guarantees and More
On August 16, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) will start a 13-day march from Kanori to Delhi, led by Jagjit Singh Dallewal. The march aims to protect farmers' rights and agriculture, demanding MSP guarantees, loan waivers, higher sugarcane prices, and water releases for irrigation canals in the Cauvery basin.
