Gadkari wins right to sue Meta, X Corp, Google over AI deepfake videos
The Bombay High Court ruled on Monday that Nitin Gadkari can sue Meta, X Corp, Google LLC, and others over AI-generated deepfake videos falsely associating him with the Ethanol Blended Petrol programme and E20 initiative. The suit seeks removal of defamatory content and interim relief, including a temporary injunction. The court will hear Gadkari’s application at a later date.
Proprietor cheats 10 investors of Rs 1.2 crore with fake trading schemes
A case was registered against the proprietor of two financial investment firms in Thane, Maharashtra, for cheating 10 investors of Rs 1.2 crore between 2022 and 2024 by promising monthly returns of 5 to 6 percent through share and forex trading schemes. The accused lured clients with nearly year-long plans and operated an agent-network system. One victim initially invested Rs 18 lakh, receiving only partial interest payments. Further inquiry revealed nine other victims cheated for Rs 1.02 crore. The Economic Offences Wing registered the case on July 24 under cheating and criminal breach of trust laws. No arrest has been made yet; investigation continues.
