Shivakumar Forms Committee as Farmers Protest Bidadi Township Project

On July 15, Karnataka’s Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced the formation of a committee to examine the Bidadi Township Project's merits and demerits in response to ongoing farmer protests outside Bengaluru. The State Cabinet will decide on the project within three months after considering the committee’s recommendations, which may include retired judges, officials, or legislators. Mr. Shivakumar stated that the project is not a new initiative but a continuation from 2006 and accused H.D. Kumaraswamy of instigating protests. He assured no forcible land acquisition would occur; compensation will be provided only to those who voluntarily agree to part with their land.
