Abhishek Banerjee, general secretary of the TMC, was heckled and assaulted by a group of people in Sonarpur, South 24 Parganas, while on his way to meet with the family of a victim killed allegedly in post-poll violence. He was refused admission at two private hospitals before being taken home after being treated for injuries sustained during the attack. Mamata Banerjee, TMC supremo and former chief minister, condemned the incident as a BJP-sponsored protest and called out the police administration for their inaction. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge also condemned the attack on Abhishek Banerjee.
