Breathe Pakistan 2026: Need for multi-sectoral approach towards climate action highlighted - Pakistan

Pakistan is facing a climate crisis, despite contributing minimally to global emissions. The second Breathe Pakistan International Climate Change Conference highlighted the need for a multi-sectoral approach to address this challenge. Experts emphasized the importance of engaging women and youth in climate action. Senator Yousuf Raza Gilani, appearing as a speaker at the conference, stressed that achieving climate, food, and economic security requires internal stability, regional calm, and global cooperation. Pernille Ironside, representing UNICEF Pakistan, commended the organizers for bringing together stakeholders to discuss solutions. The conference also saw calls for increased investment in climate resilience, particularly in areas like disaster-risk reduction and adaptation. KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi emphasized the province's efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change and called on governments to invest in sustainable practices. The conference concluded with a call for greater representation of women and youth in decision-making processes.
