Vijay, a newcomer to Tamil Nadu politics, won the recent election despite polling third in many pre-election surveys. His campaign was largely driven by social media and young voters who were energized by his anti-establishment message. Stalin, the incumbent Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and the DMK party largely ignored Vijay's candidacy, focusing instead on their traditional rivals, the AIADMK and the BJP. This strategy proved costly for the DMK as Vijay successfully targeted them with social media attacks and a youthful appeal that resonated with voters.
