West Bengal waits with bated breath for May 4 Assembly election results
Election Commission of India (ECI) will begin counting votes for the West Bengal Assembly elections on Monday, May 4, 2026. The results are expected after repolling for the Falta Assembly seat in South 24 Parganas district on May 21. The Trinamool Congress, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is seeking a fourth consecutive term while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aims to defeat them with promises of "paribortan". The Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left front and the Congress have also contested the elections. Security arrangements have been increased due to concerns about irregularities by the Trinamool Congress, which has already begun claiming victory.
