Tamil Nadu election 2026: Thiruvadanai constituency faces water scarcity, administrative limbo

The Thiruvadanai Assembly Constituency, known as the "Rice Bowl of Ramanathapuram," faces challenges with infrastructure and resource availability. Farmers in the constituency have called for more Direct Procurement Centres (DPCs) to streamline produce sales and a reliable Vaigai river water supply to ensure agricultural productivity. K. Balasubramanian, a farmer, highlighted the need for an exclusive DPC for the taluk due to the long distances involved in accessing existing ones. N. Madhavan, an advocate, pointed out administrative confusion regarding government headquarters located within Thiruvadanai's boundaries despite serving Ramanathapuram. He suggested expanding the municipality and widening the Ramanathapuram constituency to include these hubs. R.M. Karumanickam, the incumbent MLA of Congress, has been criticized for failing to address critical issues like water scarcity and procurement hurdles.
