Opposition corners Centre over unemployment, farmers’ woes during discussion on Budget in Rajya Sabha

During the debate on the Union Budget in the Rajya Sabha, Opposition members raised concerns about unemployment, sluggish economic growth, and the impact of trade agreements with the United States on the agriculture sector. P. Chidambaram, a senior Congress MP, criticized the budget as "forgettable" and highlighted the high youth unemployment rate and lack of investment in manufacturing. He also questioned the government's handling of capital expenditure cuts and the declining foreign direct investment (FDI). Arun Singh, a senior BJP MP, argued that India is becoming a global hub due to recent trade agreements, including the India-U.S. deal. Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance Minister, responded to these concerns, but did not address all of them.
