TMC welcomes Supreme Court intervention in SIR exercise, calls it big victory for West Bengal

The Supreme Court ruled that micro observers appointed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) cannot make decisions in the West Bengal electoral roll revision (SIR) process, directing the state government to provide Group B officers for support. The court also extended the deadline for claims-and-objections phase of the SIR exercise by a week. The ruling party, Trinamool Congress, hailed the decision as a victory for democracy and accused the ECI of attempting to manipulate the process. Opposition leader in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, stated that voters have the right to challenge any suspicious names on the final voter list. The BJP has demanded proper SIR before allowing assembly polls scheduled for the coming months.
