Union Budget 2026 falls short of attractive announcements for poll-bound Tamil Nadu

The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026-27, which falls short of electoral appeal for the poll-bound state of Tamil Nadu. The budget includes sector-wise measures like export promotion in leather and seafood, semiconductor mission, and electronics component manufacturing, but lacks standout announcements. Tamil Nadu will receive a marginal increase in net proceeds from shareable Central taxes, with an expected ₹62,530.65 crore as per the Budget Estimate for 2026-27. The budget also includes seven high-speed rail corridors, a rare earth corridor, and development of mountain trails and bird-watching trails.
