Congress protest outside Kerala Lok Bhavan for restoration of MGNREGA ends, party vows to intensify stir

A two-day protest organized by the Congress in Thiruvananthapuram demanding the restoration of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) concluded with party leaders vowing to continue their struggle. The protest, part of a nationwide campaign called “MGNREGA Bachao Sangram,” was launched against the replacement of MGNREGA with the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar-Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act. Congress leaders emphasized that the scheme is crucial for the livelihoods of poor and working class individuals, particularly women. The protest also drew criticism from various political parties, including the RSP, who accused the BJP of dismantling the MGNREGA to promote a theocratic state.
