Karnataka activists protest water release to Tamil Nadu, tear posters in Mandya
The Cauvery Water Management Authority upheld the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee's recommendation, directing Karnataka to release 3,500 cusecs of water per day to Tamil Nadu for 15 days starting July 29. Despite Tamil Nadu’s request for 7,000 cusecs daily and a total of 9 TMC over the period, the authority rejected it. Karnataka's Chief Minister DK Shivakumar called an all-party meeting on Sunday with Tamil Nadu's chief minister to discuss the issue. Kannada activists protested in Mandya, tearing posters and urging not to release water to Tamil Nadu due to their own severe shortages.
