Coal mine protest turns violent in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh; several cops injured, vehicles torched

A protest against a coal mining project in Chhattisgarh's Tamnar area turned violent, resulting in injuries to police officers and the burning of vehicles. Villagers, who have been protesting since December 12th, clashed with law enforcement after being asked to return to their designated protest site. Police officials reported that the crowd grew from 300 to over 1,000 people before turning violent, attacking officers and setting fire to government vehicles. The situation escalated further when protesters stormed a coal handling plant belonging to Jindal Power Limited, damaging property and injuring several police officers. The district administration is attempting to restore order and identify those responsible for the violence.
