Mamata opposing CAA against interest of Bengali Hindus claims BJP; CAA has nothing to do with citizenship retorts TMC

The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) to appease a vote bank and harm Bengali Hindus. The BJP also claimed that 1.13 crore Hindus left Bangladesh between 1964 and 2013, citing the CAA as a way to provide relief to those who faced religious persecution. The Trinamool Congress refuted these claims, stating that the CAA was not about citizenship but a political tool used to manipulate people's aspirations. The ruling party also challenged the BJP to reveal the exact number of people granted citizenship under the Act.
