Congress protests in Bengal over renaming of MGNREGA; State Congress chief courts arrest
Congress leaders in Kolkata, West Bengal, protested the renaming of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to "VB-G Ram G" by holding a march to Raj Bhavan. Over 38 protesters were arrested as they attempted to meet with the Governor. The protestors demanded an all-party meeting in the state and for the government to release funds suspended since 2022, citing the scheme's suspension in West Bengal for over three years. They criticized the renaming as disrespectful to Mahatma Gandhi and accused the BJP of dismantling MGNREGA since coming to power.
