TMC Petition Challenges Police Prohibitory Order for July 21 Rally
The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) faction filed a petition on July 10, seeking permission from the Kolkata Police to hold their July 21 Martyrs' Day rally in front of Victoria House at Esplanade. The Calcutta High Court will hear this case on July 15 after it was mentioned before Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya on July 13. The petition challenges a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the BNSS imposed by the police, who have kept an application for permission pending. A dissident TMC group led by MLA Ritabrata Banerjee also plans to hold its rally on the same day.
