Trade unions call for strike against new Labour Codes, rural work law on February 12
Ten Central Trade Unions (CTUs) have called for a general strike on February 12, 2026 against the implementation of four new Labour Codes, amendments to MGNREGA, Insurance Act, and various nuclear energy laws. The unions allege these changes are attacks on people's rights and entitlements, citing concerns over private participation in nuclear power, the replacement of MGNREGA with the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, and 100% FDI in the insurance sector. The unions plan to formally ratify the strike call at a national convention on January 9th.
