Fadnavis hikes farmer loan waiver to ₹2 lakh, scraps 2026 repayment condition

On Friday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced an increased loan waiver of Rs two lakh for farmers under the Mahatma Phule Shetkari Loan Waiver scheme, up from Rs 50,000, responding to all-party legislators' insistence. He also canceled the condition requiring repayment in 2026-27 and claimed this as the largest loan waiver scheme, expected to benefit 56 lakh farmers. The CM dismissed opposition allegations that the scheme would only amount to Rs 12 to 13 thousand crore as baseless.
