
Violence in Assam’s Karbi Anglong: No fresh violence reported, prohibitory orders remain
Ranoj Pegu, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and the Assam DGP Harmeet Singh visited Karbi Anglong district after a clash erupted between protesters and security forces. Protesters, demanding the eviction of encroachers from PGR and VGR lands, set ablaze the residence of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chief and several shops in Kheroni Bazaar. The situation escalated after police attempted to remove the protestors forcibly, leading to clashes and injuries on both sides. A prohibitory order was imposed by the District Magistrate, restricting movement and gatherings.
