TMC Rebels Seize Party HQ, Declare Arup Roy Chairman
A faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) seized the party's Kolkata office, changing locks and declaring Arup Roy as chairman. The move came after a visit to Delhi where the faction met with the Election Commission, pressing claims over the party's name, symbol, organizational structure, and assets. Mamata Banerjee loyalists condemned the takeover as unfortunate and questioned why the gates were locked. The rebels claim they have the support of around 65 legislators, while the official camp accuses them of tacit support from the state administration.
