Implementation of VB-G RAM G begins in West Bengal
The Union Government and West Bengal have launched the VB-G RAM G scheme, a 125-day job guarantee program. The scheme resumes after being suspended in 2022 due to financial irregularities allegations against the previous Trinamool Congress government. The Union Government has allocated ₹8,508 crore to Bengal, while the state has allotted its share of ₹5,672 crore. However, the Paschim Banga Khet Majoor Samity (PBKMS), an agricultural workers' union, argues that the allocation is insufficient and calls for additional funding to ensure 125 days of work for all active job cards. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the disbursement of the first tranche of funds under the Annapurna Yojana, a financial assistance scheme for women.
