Another Trinamool twist: Rebel MPs merge with little-known party, meet speaker | India News

Twenty Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs, who claim to have merged with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India, met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday and requested recognition as a separate bloc. They argued that their merger with the NCP makes them a distinct entity within the House. However, Abhishek Banerjee, leader of the TMC Parliamentary Party, countered in a letter to Speaker Birla stating the party is a single, indivisible political entity and no breakaway faction can claim independent recognition. He also pointed out that the Tenth Schedule does not recognize splinter groups as permissible events and emphasizes the importance of the political party's authority.
