Manpreet Singh Ayali, a three-time Dakha MLA, is set to formally join the Amritpal Singh-led Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) in Chandigarh on Tuesday. Ayali's move strengthens the fledgling outfit and marks another chapter in the ongoing realignment of Punjab’s Akali politics. The decision comes after Ayali resigned from all posts of the SAD (Punar Surjit), a breakaway faction of the Shiromani Akali Dal, and expressed his desire for a unified Panthic platform. Ayali's departure further reduces the SAD’s legislative strength, but senior leaders maintain that the party still has a strong grassroots base.
