Mamata Banerjee, chairperson of the Trinamool Congress, accused the police and local BJP officials of threatening her party's MLAs, preventing them from attending meetings. She claimed these threats included calls to break the party and false cases under the Arms Act. Banerjee also alleged that many party leaders were pressured into silence due to fear. The meeting called by Sobhandeb Chatterjee, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, was cancelled after only 20 of the 80 MLAs attended. Agnimitra Paul, BJP Minister, stated that the Trinamool's lack of ideological base led to its decline.
