Alleged Attacks On Trinamool MPs: Mamata Banerjee To Hit Streets On June 2
Alleged violence against elected officials raises concerns about safety and rule of law.
Mamata Banerjee, former West Bengal Chief Minister and leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), will lead protests against alleged assaults on her party MPs. Abhishek Banerjee, nephew and TMC national general secretary, was attacked with eggs and bricks while visiting families affected by post-poll violence in Sonarpur, South 24 Parganas district. Kalyan Banerjee, Lok Sabha MP from Sreerampur, also reported being assaulted near Chanditala police station while on his way to submit a deputation regarding the violence. The BJP has arrested six individuals involved in the assault on Abhishek Banerjee and claims the incident was orchestrated by internal factionalism within the TMC.
