Abhishek Banerjee, former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew, faced protests and physical assault in Sonarpur while visiting the family of a deceased TMC worker. He was attacked by protesters who hurled eggs, stones, and slushy mud at him. Despite injuries, he continued to visit the victim's residence and alleged that the attack was orchestrated by BJP goons. Mamata Banerjee criticized the police for failing to protect him and two private hospitals refused admission citing no serious injuries.
