Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool Congress national general secretary, was physically attacked by a mob in Sonarpur, West Bengal, while visiting families of post-poll violence victims. The incident occurred after he arrived to meet the family of Sanju Karmakar, a victim of the violence. Local residents shouted "thief" slogans and hurled objects at him. Derek O'Brien, leader of Trinamool in Rajya Sabha, condemned the attack and called for action from the police. Opposition leaders across parties, including Samik Bhattacharya (BJP), Mallikarjun Kharge (Congress), Akhilesh Yadav (SP), Arvind Kejriwal (AAP), and Tejashwi Yadav (RJD), condemned the attack on Banerjee and called for an end to political violence.
