Abhishek Banerjee, general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, was attacked by a mob in Sonarpur, West Bengal on Saturday. The attack occurred during his visit to the residence of a party worker allegedly killed in post-poll violence. The mob threw eggs and shoes at Banerjee as security personnel attempted to shield him from the crowd chanting "chor chor" (thief thief).
