Rate at which West Bengal tribunals restoring names of deleted electors proves genuine voters not allowed to vote: Prasenjit Bose

Prasenjit Bose, chairperson of the SIR Committee of West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee, stated that appellate tribunals have restored the names of 4,043 electors (61%) from over 25 lakh appeals against deletions in West Bengal. He emphasized that this evidence demonstrates how genuine voters were wrongfully deleted during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Bose also pointed out that while the Supreme Court upheld the SIR exercise in Bihar, a clear judicial forum for electors to challenge decisions is necessary. The SIR resulted in 27 lakh voters being excluded from West Bengal electoral rolls on April 7th, weeks before the Assembly polls, with significant deletions occurring in two Muslim-dominated districts.
