Drug menace emerges as key plank in Amit Shah’s campaign for Punjab polls

Amit Shah, Union home minister, will be visiting Punjab next month to address the drug menace, a key part of the BJP's campaign strategy for the 2027 Assembly elections. The party has signaled its intention to go it alone in the state after severing ties with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and bringing over seven Rajya Sabha MPs from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Shah previously promised to eradicate drugs within two years, a goal he believes will help broaden the BJP's appeal beyond urban centers.
