Violence erupts outside Kolkata CEO office after Trinamool alleges bulk submissions of Form 6 by BJP

Violence erupted outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s office in Kolkata on Tuesday (March 31, 2026) as clashes broke out between Trinamool Congress and BJP workers over allegations of fraudulent Form 6 applications being submitted to include non-residents in West Bengal's electoral rolls. Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, accused the BJP of attempting voter hijacking, while CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal refuted these claims, stating that he cannot control who brings what into his office. The situation escalated after a complaint from TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee alleging demographic manipulation by the EC. The BJP MP Sukanta Majumdar denied any involvement in the alleged submissions of Form 6 applications, while the leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari accused Banerjee of provoking voters against central forces.
