Duraimurugan, the DMK strongman and Minister for Water Resources, won the Katpadi seat in 2021 with a narrow margin of 746 votes, marking his sixth consecutive victory. Residents of the bustling urban agglomerate are facing challenges such as traffic congestion on key stretches connecting residential areas to the railway station and the Palar river's canal clogging leading to mosquito breeding. The District Election Officer and Collector V.R. Subbulaxmi, along with representatives from various government departments, residents’ welfare associations, and the civic body, are addressing these concerns through a District Consumer Board that meets quarterly. Residents also advocate for industrial development in Katpadi, which is largely dependent on agriculture despite its urban status.
