Karnataka to promote renewable energy with new scheme, shift pump sets to solar power

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the implementation of a new scheme called ‘Mukhya Mantri Saura Krishi Yojane’ in Karnataka, aiming to commission 3,000 MW of solar power plants across KPTCL sub-centres under the RESCO model. This initiative is part of the Union Government’s KUSUM-C program and aims to support farmers by enabling them to generate their own solar energy, shift grid-connected pumps to solar power, reduce reliance on conventional electricity, and sell surplus power back to the grid. The government has allocated ₹10,500 crore for this project, which will also strengthen the state's electricity infrastructure.
