Nearly 8% of voters removed from final electoral lists across 9 States and U.T.s in SIR second phase
The Election Commission of India published final electoral rolls for nine States and Union Territories after the second phase of a special intensive revision (SIR). A total of 1,70,28,514 voters were deleted from these lists, representing a 7.93% reduction in voter strength. Gujarat saw the highest percentage of deletions at 13.40%, while Andaman and Nicobar Islands had the lowest at 0.36%. The final list for Uttar Pradesh is scheduled to be released on April 10, with Tamil Nadu's expected publication date being February 23. The Supreme Court intervened in the process due to a "stalemate" between the Election Commission and the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal.
