Congress to hold farmers’ meetings on India-U.S. trade deal

Congress announced a series of "Kisan Sammelans" across five states and one union territory to address concerns about the India-U.S. trade agreement's impact on farmers. The decision was made after meetings with state leaders, including Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi will attend the first two sammelans in Bhopal and Yavatmal. Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh characterized the agreement as a "surrender" by the government, arguing it threatens the livelihoods of farmers.
