Cotton farmers oppose Goyal’s U.S. import remarks, warn of price crash

Farmers' organizations across the country have protested Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal’s recent statement that India can receive a zero reciprocal tariff if it imports raw cotton from the United States, processes it domestically, and exports finished products. The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) demands Goyal’s resignation, claiming his statement reveals India's surrender to the U.S., while other organizations like the All India Kisan Sabha argue that importing raw cotton will further depress domestic prices and lead to increased indebtedness for farmers.
