Cotton farmers protest Piyush Goyal’s remarks on U.S. imports, warn of price crash

Farmers' organizations across the country have protested Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal's statement that India can obtain a zero reciprocal tariff for cotton imports from the United States if it processes and exports finished products. The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), demanding Goyal's resignation, argues his statement betrays India's surrender to US economic interests. They claim this will devastate domestic prices and lead to increased indebtedness and farmer suicides. The All India Kisan Sabha also condemns the move as anti-farmer and detrimental to Indian cotton production.
