Ready to make available 8,505 Group B officers for SIR: West Bengal to Election Commission
The West Bengal government has informed the Election Commission that it is prepared to provide 8,505 Group B officers for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. This follows a Supreme Court hearing on February 4th where the poll panel argued that the state had only provided 80 Grade 2 officers for the process. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who appeared in court on February 4th, may return to argue against the SIR exercise and its alleged targeting of West Bengal's residents. The Supreme Court has issued notices to both the Election Commission and the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal.
