Shanghai Moves to Expand Labor Rights, Family Leave, Health Care

Shanghai lawmakers proposed a range of policies aimed at improving work, family life, and healthcare. Li Feng, a Shanghai People’s Congress deputy, advocated for expanded social insurance coverage for gig workers, including standardized contracts and government oversight of major platforms. Zhong Liwei, a Shanghai CPPCC member and vice president of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, proposed stricter regulation of TCM service providers and products to ensure safety and quality. Zhang Qi, a Shanghai CPPCC member, suggested extending paternity leave in Shanghai to encourage father involvement in childcare. Zhu Xueqin, a Shanghai People’s Congress deputy, called for expanding maternity insurance coverage to include migrants and gig workers, as well as tailored policies for graduate students.
