Every single genuine person must remain on electoral roll, CJI tells West Bengal CM in Supreme Court
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, presiding over a three-judge Supreme Court Bench, heard arguments from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral roll exercise. Banerjee, who filed a writ petition in her individual capacity, argued that nearly 1.4 crore voters were excluded due to "logical discrepancies" and urged the court to ensure every genuine citizen remains on the electoral roll. The Chief Justice assured the Election Commission of India it would not "run away" from its Constitutional responsibility. The court scheduled the next hearing for February 9th.
