Rahul Gandhi, leader of the Congress, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of intending to destroy the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) by stripping workers of their right to negotiate wages and diminishing the power of panchayats. Gandhi, who shared a video of his interaction with MGNREGA workers, claimed that these workers previously praised MGNREGA for improving their lives but now say it is being used to enslave them. The Congress has been demanding the government withdraw the new Gramin Rozgar Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act and fully restore the UPA-era MGNREGA.
