Thousands in Bengal receive SIR notices over ‘unusually high number’ of children linked to electors

Subhankar Sarkar, president of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee, has criticized the Election Commission of India (ECI) for issuing notices to thousands of electors under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, citing concerns about arbitrary age thresholds and "unusually high numbers of children" linked to them. Mr. Sarkar argues that these criteria are based on "logical discrepancies" and have led to the deletion of over 58 lakh names from the electoral roll in West Bengal. He has demanded a suspension of hearings on notices issued based on these criteria and an all-party meeting before proceeding further.
