Tribals’ long march suspended after government accepts demands

After over 30,000 tribals embarked on a 55-kilometer march to Palghar demanding land ownership rights and addressing issues like the Jal Jeevan Mission delays, the protest was suspended after positive discussions with Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar, Palghar District Collector. The administration promised to address pending Forest Rights Act claims by April 30, 2026, and physically inspect lands of farmers who received less than they cultivated. The government also assured a time-bound action for registering landlords' and temple lands in the names of actual tillers.
