PM Modi to visit Bengal, Assam on January 17, 18; will flag off first Vande Bharat sleeper train
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit West Bengal and Assam on January 17th and 18th, 2026. He will flag off India's first Vande Bharat sleeper train between Howrah and Guwahati, lay the foundation stone for multiple rail and road infrastructure projects worth over ₹3,250 crore, and perform bhoomi pujan for the Kaziranga elevated corridor project. He will also inaugurate and flag off new Amrit Bharat Express trains connecting various cities, including New Jalpaiguri-Nagercoil, New Jalpaiguri-Tiruchirappalli, Alipurduar-SMVT Bengaluru, and Alipurduar-Mumbai (Panvel). Additionally, Modi will lay the foundation stone for four major railway projects in West Bengal.
