J&K Muslim bodies express concern over ‘police profiling' of mosques

Jammu and Kashmir Police’s reported move to profile mosques, their ideology, and caretakers has been met with sharp criticism from religious leaders. The Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), a conglomerate of Islamic organizations in J&K, described the profiling as “intrusive” and “threatening,” citing concerns about the collection of highly personal information including family details, financial information, and digital profiles. The MMU called for government intervention to stop this exercise, which they believe violates fundamental rights and undermines trust in religious institutions. National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah also condemned the move, stating it is part of a right-wing ideology aimed at controlling religions that do not align with their worldview. Imran Reza Ansari, leader of the J&K Peoples Conference, expressed concern over the level of intrusion into religious spaces and called for a rethink of this policy.
