Standing committee chairpersons elected in Kozhikode Corporation

The Kozhikode Corporation council election resulted in a BJP councillor being elected as the chairperson of the Tax and Appeals standing committee, marking the first time for such an achievement. Vineetha Sajeevan of the BJP won against K. Saritha of the Congress after a draw of lots due to an abstention by the CPI(M) member. The LDF secured majority in six standing committees while the UDF had one, with Kavitha Arun of the IUML Independent party being elected as the chairperson for the Welfare committee. The UDF and CPI(M) have both accused each other of influencing the election results through various means.
