
N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurates first phase of Poola Subbaiah Veligonda irrigation project
On August 31, 2026, N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, inaugurated the first phase of the Poola Subbaiah Veligonda irrigation project in Prakasam district, fulfilling a three-decade-old promise to drought-prone areas. The project aims to divert Krishna river waters through gravity to irrigate 4.47 lakh acres and provide drinking water to around 23 lakh people, including those affected by fluoride contamination. It also includes compensation for displaced families totaling ₹905 crore.
