Villagers Thank CM for Scrapping Controversial Airport: "C. Joseph Vijay Road" in Works
On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, members of the Parandur Greenfield Airport Opposition Joint Movement, including president G. Subramanian and secretary S.T. Kadhiresan, met Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at the Secretariat in Chennai to thank him for scrapping the controversial Parandur Greenfield Airport project. The villagers had protested against the project since 2021 due to environmental concerns. They alleged that the previous DMK regime ignored their warnings about unsuitable geographical conditions and proceeded with land acquisition, threatening livelihoods and historic sites. Vijay promised to cancel the project if elected, a promise he fulfilled after assuming office. Villagers from Ekanapuram plan to name a lane "C. Joseph Vijay road" as a gesture of gratitude.
