Congress Chief Welcomes Cancellation of Parandur Airport Over Feasibility Issues
On Monday, B. Manickam Tagore, president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC), welcomed the state government’s decision to cancel the Parandur Airport project due to low-lying and waterlogged land issues, as highlighted in a 2022 feasibility report by Airports Authority of India. The site was nearly two-and-a-half times farther from Chennai than an alternative location, displaced more families, and required twice the earthwork. Mr. Tagore emphasized the need for genuine consent and independent social impact assessments before land acquisition, calling for immediate release of outstanding compensation and restoration of civic infrastructure.
